ABOUT INDIGO STAFF
Lindsay Bottoms
Lindsay is an exercise physiologist who works as a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Central Lancashire.  Her area of expertise is in the area of thermoregulation (how the body regulates temperature) as well as the effect of sports drinks on sports performance.  Both of these are areas of specific interest to fencing performance, especially when competing internationally.  As you become dehydrated your skill accuracy deteriorates and therefore performance can also deteriorate, this makes it important to maintain hydration levels.  Also, the more dehydrated you become the greater your body temperature can become, this again can be detrimental to performance.

Therefore, Lindsay can provide information with strategies for maintaining hydration during competition and training as well as information on maintaining body temperature.  As well as providing all round general sports science information to help improve fencing performance.

In addition to her Sports Science background, she also competes in the Women’s Epee circuit and is currently ranked in the top twenty in the senior UK rankings.  Lindsay also went as a staff member with the Junior England Fencing team to the Junior Commonwealth Championships in Penang in February 2009.

Further information on sports science can be found on the information pages provided on the website.  Also you can contact Lindsay via email at: LBottoms@uclan.ac.uk
